G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero is an American animated television series based on the hit toy line from Hasbro and the Marvel Comics comic series , and produced by Sunbow and Marvel Productions , in collaboration with Japanese production Toei. Animation . The cartoon began with two five-part mini-series in 1983 and 1984, and went on to become a regular series from 1985 to 1986, split and produced together for a total of 95 episodes.
